Troy's Poetry letters

We the family, friends, and supporters of Troy have each posted a character letter about who Troy really is.

Hey everybody,

My name is Harold, Troy's brother, and I can confirm what type of person my brother really is. Troy has always been the type of person that would do all he could just to get a laugh out of you, and put smile on your face. He has this comedian side to him, but mainly he was the person who would dream big, and then turn those dreams into reality if he could. I can remember when he first started boxing for a boxing gym out in San Diego called City Boxing. He called me and said to me, by the end of his first year of boxing that he would turn amateur, and sure enough he did. His next goal was to go pro but he brought responsibility into the world, his first child, and he decided that boxing was no longer an option.  His daughter became his main priority. Therefore, he extended his hours at work to maintain the apartment he rented for 3 years until he became a single parent and was forced to relocated back with our mother.

It wasn' tuntil then, my brother discovered he had a talent to write poetry and short stories, do comedy, and talk in front of large audiences. When my brother had time, he would ask my mom to watch the baby and go down to local cafe's around the downtown San Diego area to recite poetry he had written or rap it. At times he would even change his appearances with stand up comedy, but his main shows consisted of him speaking poetry. He later started getting recognition for his style of poetry, and started getting booked for small shows at more local cafes. He also had bookings at some community centers like one I remerber attending off of Euclid in Southeast San Diego called The Cesear Chavez & Harriet Tubman Community Center, and also the Malcom X library. Once it was obvious to my brother that he possessed the gift to speak poetry and entertain an audience, he decided that Atlanta Ga. would be the place for him and his daughter to reside.

He knew we had family in Atlanta, he felt he had better chances of being discovered for his talents there, the employment opportunity for African Americans was better, college would be less expensive, and he felt that these opportunities would be the key to successfully fulfilling his goals and dreams. His goals being to get discovered for his talents and go to college for writing and poetry, and his dreams which were to create a stable life for him and his daughter and maintain a good paying stable job. He knew that this would prove to the foster parents who have custody of his other child that he would be able to support his younger daughter. This was also his opportunity to gain custody of his daughter. This is what pulled my brother through his hard times as a single parent, the dream of having both kids, a good paying job and hopefully an upcoming future career. This was my brother's pursuit to happiness.

Insearch for low income housing in Georgia, my brother found$8.00/monthly housing in LaFyette Ga. and considerd that to be a huge stepping stone to Atlanta. Unaware that the foul mentality and inproper legal system of Walker County would change what my brother was once in pursit of into a desaster.

Hello everyone,
My name is Kimberly and I just want to take the time out and reflect on what type of man my brother really is. He is a loving father and very ambitious person, you give Troy a challenge and he is going to do everything in his power to complete the task. My niece was born with a birth defect and Troy was willing to give his life for her to have the normal life that all children are destine to have. I have watched Troy grow from a boy to a man. He has taken the time to push our younger brother everyday to go to school get an education and be proud of the diploma he would one day receive in the end. When parent teacher conference would arrive, Troy would take the time out of his busy day to meet with the teachers for our younger brother to see what concerns they may have in helping him to succeed in getting his education.

He is a son that will go the extra mile to ensure our mothers well being.Troy is the type of guy who believe knowledge is power and with that has attended San Diego Community College for computer science, he had to put schooling on hold and take up a second job to support his daughter when he quickly became a single parent, because that’s what a parent would do. Later when he was settled with an apartment and stable employment Troy decided to pursue an education in nursing as he is a caring person who lives to make a difference for others, to show them that there are still some good caring people in this world. Once again,Troy’s life was put on hold to take care of two daughters. He had been in a fight with life itself to just survive and take care of his children. Troy was in the process of regaining custody of his baby girl before he moved to Lafayette. He thought with the affordable housing and schooling, this would be the key to a better life for him and his girls and a nice quite place to raise them.

Two weeks before my brother was arrested for the alleged crime we had a great loss in our family the heart of the family my Grandmother passed, and that was hard on all of us. I can speak freely for my brother when I say trying to put his life in order and deal with our lost the last thing on his mind would be to commit a crime, we all know what will happen, when you break, the law and no parent want their child to be taken or their freedom. I have watched him with his daughter and I know he would not do anything to put her in harms way. I said this because in order to do the crime he would have had to leave her home alone in a place where he knew no one. And that’s not him it’s not what he would do. He has signed up for jobs filled out applications, and registered with the employment office as well as registered my niece ( his daughter) in school. A man working so hard to build a new and better life for him and his children would not do anything to jeopardize that.

Thank you for taking the time out to empathize with us by reading what we have written about Troy, so that you can see Troy the way we know him and see him through our hearts, eyes, and mind.

To read about more cases like Troys view websites like Innocent In Prison Project International, Innocent Project etc... There are a lot of information out there about cases like this. The recent one being a man name James Bain who has just been relesed after serving 35 years in jail for a crime he didn't do.

Unfortunately not every conviction can be vindicated through the technology of DNA evidence. Various falsely incarcerated persons suffer from injustices afflicted by bogus witnesses, unlawful police, court appointed defense attorneys, prosecutors and judges! One or more of the following factors typically contribute to a false conviction
